Realistically, nobody who saw the original “300” movie from 2007 was expecting a sequel. After all, the movie was killing major characters off a few years before HBO’s “Game of Thrones” was even a glimmer in Richard Plepler’s eye. (Was I supposed to say “spoiler alert”?) Well, behold the power of the mighty dollar, my friends, because “300” has indeed spawned itself a sequel, “300: Rise of an Empire,” which opens next March. Based on the trailer below, it looks to be more of the same, although original director Zack Snyder has downsized himself to a producing credit and handed the reigns over to — wait, Noam Murro?? The director of that self-righteous dramedy “Smart People” from 2008? Hmm. I’m not so sure about this one anymore.
I guess we’ll have to wait another nine months to find out if Murro has what it takes to fill Snyder’s shoes. Here’s hoping.
