Moviocrity episode 3 is finally here, and this is where we really dig into the fromage, celebrating even some of the campiest motion pictures.

The spotlight this time is on the 1983 science fiction epic, SPACEHUNTER: ADVENTURES IN THE FORBIDDEN ZONE. This was no $300,000 flick, but a $14 million film (roughly $33 million in 2013 money) from Columbia Pictures,  positioned to bring in some early summer dollars.

The film stars Peter Strauss, a pre-SIXTEEN CANDLES Molly Ringwald, a pre-GHOSTBUSTERS Ernie Hudson and a post-SCANNERS/pre-TOP GUN Michael Ironside, who plays a robot/mutant hybrid with giant claw arms. The film was co-produced by Ivan Reitman and was originally released in 3-D, just one of many released in the process as the early-1980s underwent a brief 3-D revival.

On this thirtieth anniversary of SPACEHUNTER: ADVENTURES IN THE FORBIDDEN ZONE, kick back and watch this latest episode of Moviocrity. It talks about what makes the film so endearing three decades later. It’s filled with campy adventure, wonderfully strange dialogue and the enduring charm of practical special effects.

And remember… ADVENTURE WITHOUT SHAME!
