Moviocrity is the new YouTube web series I’m doing, which focuses on the greatest, most exciting aspects of cult and exploitation cinema. The show was put together as a rebuke to mainstream entertainment, which seems to be getting more and more generic as time wears on. All of this was covered in the premiere episode, which served as a call to arms of sorts.
After some legal wrangling in which I had to make a case that yes, the show does fall under the “fair use” exemption of copyright law, episode 2 of Moviocrity is finally on the air! This is where we will actually be spotlighting specific films and focus more on the celebration of outsider cinema rather than thumbing our nose at the mainstream (don’t worry, there will be plenty of that down the road too).
I hope you enjoy this second episode which focuses on Jack Hill’s SPIDER BABY, starring Lon Chaney Jr., Sid Haig, Jill Banner, Beverly Washburn, Carol Ohmart and Mantan Moreland. It’s a quirky little gem that is pretty much the perfect film to inaugurate our celebrations.
So, check it out, look for the previous episode and please stay tuned, because there is even more Moviocrity on the way.
