X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Sequel Brings Both Franchises Together

wolverineIt’s all happening with tweets nowadays. Bryan Singer sent this tweet out to his fans,“I would officially like to welcome@RealHughJackman to the cast of #Xmen Days of Future Past. Very excited! More to come…”  This cements the new film’s status as one that combines both X-MEN franchises under one roof.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, you will remember, was the prequel to the earlier X-MEN series. This is what they’re doing with the X-MEN series now, even though there are still spin-offs such as the upcoming WOLVERINE sequel. But wait, this new installment is X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Fans of the comic book will recognize that as one that utilizes time travel as a main part of its storyline.

Hence, Hugh Jackman joins the previously announced Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellan from the previous X-MEN franchise, as well as James McAvoy, Michael Fassbinder and Jennifer Lawrence who are reprising their X-MEN: FIRST CLASS roles. Also, X-MEN 1 and 2 director Bryan Singer returns to the director’s chair.

So, it looks as though the new film is a family reunion of sorts, bridging the new and old franchises. How big a role will the elder X-Men play? You’ll have to wait until July 18, 2014 to find out.
