The Wrap is confirming that Daniel Craig and Bill Murray have both signed onto George Clooney’s newest directorial effort, THE MONUMENT MEN.
Based on Robert M. Edsel’s book, THE MONUMENTS MEN: ALLIED HEROES, NAZI THIEVES AND THE GREATEST TREASURE HUNT in history, the film will be about people who track down stolen art between D-Day and V.E.-Day during World War II.
Clooney will direct, produce and star in the film as George Stout, an art conservationist responsible for saving tens of thousands of works of art from the Nazis. Clooney is writing the script with Grant Heslov. This marks Clooney’s fourth film as director, following CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND, GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK and LEATHERHEADS.
Craig and Murray are just the two newest members of what is already shaping up to be an impressive cast. In addition to Clooney, the film will star Cate Blanchett as an art historian and member of the French resistance. Oscar-winner Jean Dujardin (THE ARTIST) will also play a supporting role.
THE MONUMENTS MEN begins shooting next spring.
