The first IRON MAN 3 trailer is here, and it looks amazing.
As you can see, this looks like a decidedly darker tale than the previous two films. It begins Marvel Phase Two – the first wrapping up with AVENGERS – in earnest.
From the official plot rundown:
“In Marvel’s IRON MAN 3, brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man played by Robert Downey Jr., is pitted against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?”
From the trailer, it seems like Tony Stark has been effected by the invasion of New York. He is still Tony Stark, but he’s been shaken a bit and seems very concerned with protecting those closest to him. Unfortunately, that personal world is threatened by the coming of the Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley), an international terrorist whose reach is felt around the globe.
The film brings back familiar faces like Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Jon Favreau, naturally. Also joining the cast is Kingsley, Guy Pearce, William Sadler, Rebecca Hall (THE TOWN, RED RIDING: 1974) and Stephanie Szostak (DINNER FOR SHMUCKS, WE BOUGHT A ZOO).
Shane Black, who directed Downey in the excellent KISS KISS BANG BANG, takes over directing duties from Favreau. Black is also responsible for writing such classic action fests as LETHAL WEAPON and THE LAST BOY SCOUT. He co-writes the IRON MAN 3 script with Drew Pearce.
IRON MAN 3 will be released on April 26, 2013. And yes, that is one week earlier than the May 3rd date we reported earlier.
